Africa! There was something comforting about being in Zimbabwe. Since I boarded the flight, the people, the languages and culture just felt so close to home. Growing up in South Africa, one wouldn't necessarily have booked and saved for a holiday, to visit your neighbouring country. And to be honest, if it was not for this amazing job, I would not have thought of visiting Harare, and that would have been unfortunate. When we landed, the bush veld and golden sunset greeted us with such a warming feeling - an African welcome!
Traveling to the hotel, and witnessing the level of poverty I hadn't seen in awhile, after living in Dubai, had made me feel extremely blessed. That night, as per usual the crew met downstairs for the hotel dinner buffet, where many of the crew were introduced to wild kudu meat, and malva pudding with custard (yes, sadly there is not such thing in Dubai). It was going to be an early night, as most of us were heading out on a horse-back safari the next morning, and for some their first time on a horse... yes that included myself.
Check out the short video, of what was an amazing day spotting giraffes and zebra!!
Mukuvisi Woodlands and Lake Chivero tour - with Sir Lance Rusere (highly recommended).
He was so polite and friendly, and showed immense gratitude for the business. He has a true love for his country and people... and it's these little moments, encountering amazing souls around the world, that make travel and life worth it.
Next stop: Mauritius :)
Be forever blessed
